Our History

Robert R. Berluti opened his law office in 1995 with a handful of clients. From the outset, Attorney Berluti positioned the firm to serve business owners and closely held private companies who did not get the attention they deserved from the area's large law firms. He built a practice winning over one client at a time, representing entrepreneurs, executives and family businesses. To expand the range of his skills, he matriculated in Boston University's part-time MBA program and received his MBA in 1994.

Throughout the years, the firm grew steadily and honed its focus with practice areas geared towards the needs of its growing list of business clients. The firm became highly regarded for providing prompt, personalized, and excellent service and cost-effective legal solutions.

In 1997, Mr. Berluti strengthened the firm's capabilities by forming a partnership with his former college roommate John T. McLaughlin, an experienced business lawyer and counselor with a growing practice of his own. John has built his reputation on encouraging clients to take practical approaches to building a successful business with an emphasis on planning as the best tool to prepare for the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

In 1998, Berluti & McLaughlin LLC moved to its present location at 44 School Street in the financial district of downtown Boston. In 2005, the partners led a group of investors that purchased the building housing its offices, now known as the Berluti & McLaughlin building. Today, as we continue to add highly skilled associates and bring new focus to our business oriented practice areas, we maintain the same level of outstanding client service that has distinguished us since our inception.
